Resume and Artist Statement
PROFILE
I grew up in Minnesota, and have been formally painting since I was about eight years old. Because of an innate love of art and creativity, I attended Brigham Young University where I received a degree in drawing and painting. I thrive by finding inspiration in my home and life as a wife and a mother. In 2008, I started designing wedding invitations, and today my business has bloomed to over 150 designs, many of which are hand-drawn, and are used by brides-to-be from all over the world.
EDUCATION
Brigham Young University • 2010 • Bachelor's of Arts in Visual Arts
Not including general University classes, I completed over three years of extensive courses in visual arts, printmaking, painting, digital, letterpress, and other various forms of artwork, including over one year of advanced art courses.
I studied under nationally and internationally recognized artists -- Wayne Kimball, Joe Ostraff, Sunny Belliston Taylor, Jared Latimer, Gary Barton, and Christopher Thornock.

ARTIST STATEMENT
I am a mother and a wife, and I paint the world around me. I paint my love, devotion, and adoration. I also paint my home, the view out my window, daily chores, and simple things that catch my attention. I don't try to come up with some difficult and abstract meaning to my paintings, but I paint the simple things of family, love, and home. I am not very different from you, in fact, I am just like you. I get the baby up from his crib, I make lunch, I put baby down for a nap, I kiss my husband, I do the laundry and these are all things I paint about. While my paintings are very personal to me, they are universal and I paint them to connect to everyone.
I use a myriad of mediums while I paint. I love the process of obscuring some of the painting with layers-- whether those are layers of beeswax, gold leaf, printing, ink, pencil, charcoal, and oil/acrylic/watercolor paint. I paint on paper, cardboard, found wood, panels, and canvas. Layer not only gives me freedom in an almost 3-Dimensional way that traditional painting cannot obtain, it also allows me to play with texture as well as shape.
My paintings have a unique geometry to them. While I paint things I see, my paintings often do not give up their meanings easily. Breaking down the subject to geometric shapes and lines allow me to focus on things other than realism. Slowing down the eyes to graze over the beauty of the painting is one happy result, but I also do it to emphasize the innate shape of objects I (and no doubt, we) see all around us. This allows me to see my world in a slightly different way- a world full of shapes and colors and textures that is continuously yielding new inspiration.
